Breastfeeding in public

Did you hear about the breastfeeding mom who was removed from a plane recently? With terrorists and other critical things to worry about, it seems a bit ridiculous that a woman doing the most natural, normal thing in the world--feeding her child--should be the target of such treatment in America. When did breastfeeding become such a disgraceful, nasty thing that it has to be hidden away like something to be ashamed of?

We definitely believe there's a time and place for everything, including breastfeeding, but we also believe that when it's done discreetly it simply shouldn't be a problem. Of course no one wants to see a bare-chested woman feeding her baby in public, but most nursing mothers are a lot more discreet than that! They tend to wear clothing in layers so they can separate the clothing in such a way as to keep the breast covered while still allowing the baby to latch on to the nipple. A lot of nursing moms also use blankets or other cover-ups to further shield their breast from public view.

Our feeling about it is this: If breastfeeding in public disturbs you, please feel free to put a blanket over YOUR head. :)
